About Conventum

From vision to reality!

Ahead of Örebro’s 700th anniversary, there was a need for a new theatre and a large hall that could be used for youth activities, among other things. In addition, hotels and congress rooms were needed. The City Council therefore decided to build a community centre for these purposes and with the “Folketshus-movement” as tenant. The 700th anniversary was close and the brothers Erik and Tore Ahlsén were appointed architects. Now begins an exciting journey for Örebro’s tourism and meetings industry.

At the end of the 1990s, large hotel establishments took place in Örebro city center. Now the city can offer more hotel beds to its conference guests and the foundation for long-distance meetings has been laid. In order to promote the meeting industry in Örebro, the municipality realized that in collaboration with destination Örebro, it would invest higher. Being able to host really big meetings. The location, in the middle of Sweden is perfect. Plans to build a congress facility adjacent to Medborgarhuset and the City Library are beginning to gain ground.

In 2004, after 19 months of hard work by some thirty companies involved (just over 80% companies from the local area), the congress facility was inaugurated, which is divided into three floors and has the capacity to receive 1470 guests. There is space for exhibitions, mini-fairs, congresses, banquets and concert venues for 2,200 people. The name Conventum was decided for the conference and congress building and a contractor will be appointed to run it. Bicky Chakraborty, CEO of Elite Hotels and Håkan Bergström, Hotel Manager of Elite Stora Hotellet, wins the tender and since 2004 runs Conventum under the company Kongrexum. In 2008, Conventum Conference and Conventum Congress Hall were supplemented with Conventum Arena. An open-plan arena of 4,800 sqm. A fantastic venue for trade fairs, concerts, dinners and corporate events now Örebro is firmly equipped with its central core with big city life complemented by its beautiful surroundings, its history, the good communication opportunities and the three large arenas that are always ready to put meetings between people in focus.
